JOB SUMMARY Responsible to provide services that ensure patients, visitors and colleagues meet daily nutritional requirements. Effectively operate the meal ordering application and provide phone assistance necessary to maintain communications of the Food and Nutrition Service Department with the patients and guests within the Medical Center. Provides meal answering service for four of Saint Joseph Health System (SJHS) locations. (Mish, Plym, Rehab and Kindred). Responsible for replenishing nourishments/floor stock; working tray line including patient tray delivery, cleaning and taking temperatures as required. JOB DUTIES 1. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to personal and patient health, safety and medical information. 3. Operates multiple-line phone console in order to answer, transfer and relay incoming telephone calls with high regard for customer service. 4. Communicates effectively with nursing staff, patients/family members as well as department staff in the interpretation and delivery of the patient menu and nutritional requirements. 5. Maintains a variety of records within the meal ordering application including patient information (such as diet, allergies, nourishments, admission, transfer and discharge data). Receives the computerized diet order, interprets and translates the order data into viable meal and nourishment orders. 7. Coordinates the referral of patient nutrition information to Clinical Dietitians. 8. Assists with calorie intake consults, daily allergy checking, nourishment checks regarding up-to-date tube feeding and nourishment orders and food service production regarding patient menu needs. 9. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with identified competencies and job requirements. Completes required competencies related to diet orders, customer service and patient care issues. 10. Conducts periodic tray assessments and patient rounds to determine acceptability of meals, overall patient satisfaction and to ensure that quality standards are met. 11. Tracks/tallies census, meal production, floor stock, snacks and delivery of tube feedings. 12. Actively participates in department weekly and daily cleaning schedule. 13. Responsible for delivering patient trays in a courteous, accurate and expeditious manner. 14. Prepares and delivers catered food in a timely manner per recipes and portion control. Cleans up after events and tracks event costs and charges as appropriate. 15. Assists in training and orienting new colleagues. 16. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed. JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Licensure: None Experience: Knowledge and experience in food service desired. On the job training provided. Experience in answering multi-line phones and customer service preferred. Basic computer knowledge desired. Other Job Requirements: 3 to 4 weeks training required. Communication: Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters and analytical ability to gather and interpret data. Attitude: Requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors, and/or hospital colleagues. Maintain high customer responsiveness. Appearance: Maintains a professional appearance by following dress code policies and wearing identification badge correctly at all times. Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
