Job Description:

Balanced Awakening is a thriving psychotherapy practice focused exclusively on empowering female-identified individuals on their healing journey. We're currently searching for a self-directed Billing Specialist to provide insurance and general billing support for our rapidly growing practice headquartered in Chicago. In this position, you will work--closely with the practice manager, and therapists and be responsible for a variety of tasks related to insurance and client billing.

Applicants should be very detail-oriented and organized, possess excellent communication skills, and, once trained, be able to complete tasks independently.

Reports to:--Erica Braunshausen, Practice Manager

Position:--Full-time salaried. @ 35-40 hours a week. The schedule can be flexible as needed.

Work location:--Hybrid (mostly remote + with one day/month working from our Lakeview office in Chicago).

Compensation:--$45,000-$50,000, commensurate with level of experience. Three weeks of PTO.--Full healthcare & 401k benefits.

Responsibilities:
--- Run weekly account aging report to identify delayed insurance payments, refunds, and account balances over 30-60 days old
--- Run a weekly report to identify unsubmitted claims and unbilled self-pay sessions
--- Investigate rejected claims/claim errors and when needed, submit revised claims or call insurance payers to have claims adjusted/obtain more information
--- Look up insurance benefits for new clients and communicate an explanation of benefits to clients prior to the first session
--- Track and obtain preauthorizations in the rare case that they are necessary
--- Follow up on unpaid claims with insurance payers within the standard billing cycle timeframe
--- Manually post insurance payments/ERAs and patient payments in practice EHR when needed
--- Work with clients to establish payment plans for past-due accounts and bill accordingly
--- Follow up with therapists/clients regarding declined credit cards and account balances
--- Assist with balancing client accounts in EHR due to refunds or insurance payer audits
--- Maintain a tracker of outstanding/appealed claims, declined credit cards, and outstanding client balances
--- Additional billing/administrative tasks and projects that may arise

Qualifications:
--- Knowledge of health insurance guidelines for claims, specifically BCBS PPO & Aetna; experience specifically with behavioral health claims a plus, but not required
--- Knowledge of EHR software; experience with IntakeQ and Availity a plus, but not required
--- Technologically savvy; basic knowledge of Google Suite
--- Effective communication skills when speaking with insurance payers
--- Excellent customer service skills for interacting with clients regarding outstanding payments
--- Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, and appeals
--- Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines when handling client information
--- Familiarity with Medicare a plus
--- Excited to be serving in an integral supportive role on the Balanced Awakening team
